Mindfulness Meditation

What is mindfulness meditation?

Simply, mindfulness is awareness.  We might think that we are aware of ourselves, our surroundings, and other people, but many of us are so busy, and our thoughts so scattered, that we are operating on auto-pilot.  Before we know it, our stress levels are through the roof, work and relationships have become difficult, and our sense of wellbeing declines.

Mindfulness is like a muscle.  By learning and practicing mindfulness meditation, we increase our ability to be mindful more often.  We deepen our awareness of our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and circumstances as they are in the here and now.  Mindfulness meditation provides us with an opportunity to stop, breathe and rest.  It enables us to see more clearly what is contributing to our suffering, and identify how we might be able to help ourselves.

"Meditation is not just for relaxation; its primary purpose is to develop the capacity to respond skillfully and gracefully to life's difficulties, as well as its joys."

Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche

What are the benefits of mindfulness meditation?

There are considerable benefits including stress management, emotional regulation, increased ability to focus, concentrate and make decisions, the cultivation of compassion for oneself and others, pain management, sleep improvement, and much more.

Developing a personal meditation practice can have a profound impact on your life.  Also, many workplaces recognize that mindfulness is key to employee wellbeing, performance, team-building, and workplace morale.  Mindfulness meditation can be particularly beneficial to employees as they juggle multiple responsibilities and looming deadlines. Regularly scheduled guided meditation can help employees to cultivate mindful presence throughout the day, in everything they do.

What Clients Say

Farheen's lunchtime sessions at work were my first experience with mindfulness meditation. It was tough to focus at first - I'm easily distracted. But she explained that meditation is different for everyone, and that it is important to be patient with ourselves as we learn and practice.  Her soothing voice during the guided meditations helped me feel instantly calm and relaxed, even on days when I was otherwise feeling stressed.  She also shared links to resources so I can practice on my own.
