Reiki
The word “Reiki” comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy). Reiki is the energy that already flows through each of us - it is the energy that helps us to breathe, to move our bodies, to digest food, to heal from cuts or broken bones, and so much more.

For a variety of reasons, the naturally-flowing energy in our bodies may become weak, stuck, or blocked, causing us to experience pain, illness, or other difficulties.
During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner adds to your energy, to help to stimulate and strengthen your inherent ability to heal - to naturally and in your own time, return to a state of balance. A skilled Reiki practitioner does not offer their own energy or manipulate or control your energy, but instead gently and non-invasively adds Reiki to the river of energy already within you. It flows to where it is most needed.

There are many traditions of "palm-healing" or "hands-on healing" around the world. Reiki is a practice that originated in early twentieth-century Japan by Mikao Usui during his exploration of Buddhist healing. Reiki was introduced to North America by the Third Grand Master of Reiki, Hawayo Takata, in the late 1930s. Today, it is widely known and practiced around the world.

What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki benefits everyone differently, depending on your state of health. As a holistic practice, it can support the health and wellbeing of your mind, body, and spirit. Reiki has been known to help people to feel centered, grounded, clear-minded, and calm. It may help improve sleep, reduce stress, relieve pain, and strengthen the function of the body's nervous system, organs, and immune system. Though a single Reiki treatment can be of great benefit, a series of treatments can be transformative, particularly if you have a specific health condition or goal. Just as pain, illness, or difficulties can develop over time, healing, recovery, and strengthening may also take time.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?
If you are receiving an in-person treatment, all you need to do is lay fully clothed on the treatment table (similar to a massage table), or if you're receiving a distance Reiki treatment, rest comfortably wherever you are. It is a wonderful time to relax and enjoy the warm healing energy. Some people may feel like napping during a Reiki treatment. The Reiki will flow and reach you regardless of what you are doing at the time. The practitioner adds Reiki to the river of energy already flowing within you, by holding their hands in stillness a few inches above you, or with gentle touch, depending upon your comfort and preference. During a distance Reiki treatment, the practitioner energetically connects to you, channels Reiki as though they are providing you with a hands-on treatment, and spends the same amount of time and effort that they would in person.

Is distance Reiki as beneficial as a hands-on, in-person treatment?
Yes. Reiki is an energy-based practice, and a skilled Reiki practitioner (Level 2 or higher) is trained to connect energetically to a person and direct Reiki to them, regardless of their location. Clients report feeling the same physical sensations and benefits from a distance Reiki treatment as they feel during an in-person session. The best way to find out is to give it a try for yourself.
